Volunteers Needed Now

The Sacramento Hunger Commission is looking for energetic volunteers of all ages to have fun, support hunger programs and be leaders in your community.

Opportunities Available for Teens and Adults

Contribute to or organize your service club, church or school to sponsor a "Pots and Pans" donations drive to provide basic kitchenware for families setting up new households.

Help out at a local food closet, or help serve lunch to over 800 homeless individuals (men, women and kids) at Loaves and Fishes.

Host a "Hunger 101" interactive experience for a youth or adult group (school, church, club etc.) --a great way to really understand the challenges of feeding a family on a limited budget.

Volunteer at a community garden. Help organize a garden, build a handicapped accessible section of a community garden, or introduce a community garden to school groups.

Grow an extra row of produce in your own garden and donate it through the Junior Garden Gleaners program (call 663-1753 or 1-530-889-7386)

Help with the Free Summer Lunch for Kids Program. Serve lunch, supervise kids or provide enrichment activities at sites June through August. Recruit volunteers and start sites all year round.

Add your name to a mailing list to receive hunger action email alerts or help Hunger Commission staff with big mailings or other office work
