Anti-Hunger Legislation and InformationPublic policy is a broad term. It can include a local school board's decisions about junk foods and a City Council's policies about land use and community gardens -- as well as national legislation about federal food assistance programs. This section includes information and links on a wide range of current policy issues and decisions affecting hunger and community food security, whether at a local, state, or federal level. The section includes an overview of the major federal food assistance
programs and outreach materials created by the Hunger Commission for several
of these programs. A good source of information about the major federal
food assistance programs is USDA's
Food and Nutrition Service Web site. In the case of the School Breakfast
and Summer Food Program, the Hunger Commission has received awards for
some of its outreach materials. Some of these can be downloaded and adapted
to use in other communities. Currently the Hunger Commission is focusing
on an outreach campaign to increased participation in the Food Stamp Program
among senior citizens and those who are homeless in Sacramento County.
These materials will also be posted. Please use the General Comment Interactive
Form to provide feedback on these materials and to share successful outreach
tips with others.
