Federal Food programs and Successful Social Marketing CampaignsThe Hunger Commission has created award-winning outreach materials for two child nutrition programs (School Breakfast and Summer Lunch) and is currently facilitating an outreach campaign to increase participation in the food stamp program among senior citizens and those who are homeless in Sacramento County. You can click on the links below to see summaries of the two successful child nutrition campaigns and a synopsis of the current food stamp campaign. The Hunger Commission encourages you to download the outreach materials posted and revise them for use in your own community and to use the General Comment Interactive Form to share your successful outreach tips with others. School BreakfastIn 1994, the Hunger Commission and a local television station created a comprehensive outreach campaign in partnership with schools, the community and families called "Tune Into Breakfast". The campaign created free educational materials, including an activity book with classroom-ready activities for kids (More . . . ) [Top] Summer Food ProgramIn 1994, the Hunger Commission collaborated with the City of Sacramento (the Summer Food sponsor for Sacramento County) to increase participation in the Summer Lunch Program. The result has been a 144% increase in the average daily participation of children eating Summer Lunch. In 1995, 165,564 people received food stamps as compared to 109,532 in December 2001. This represents a 34% drop in the number of people participating in the food stamp program. (More . . . ) [Top] |
