Policy >> Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)
Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)This program reimburses eligible providers for nutritious meals served to children (up to age 12, or if disabled, to age 15) in settings such as Head Start centers, child care centers, family day care homes, after-school programs, emergency shelters, and adult day care centers. The program can also offer after-school snacks in sites that meet eligibility requirements. Although the required paperwork can be daunting, the number of centers (child care and adult care) participating in CACFP nationwide increased by 17 percent from 1996 to 2000. On the other hand, the number of family day care homes has decreased during that same period. In 1999-2000 there were 5,610 centers and 24,947 family day care homes in California participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program. In Sacramento the major local contact for those interested in enrolling in the program is B J Jordan, 916-344-8818.[Top] |
