There are many ways that you can fight hunger in your community.
Now is the time to get involved. Follow the links to see the
ways you can make a difference.
-
Donate:
The fight against hunger is winnable, but also
expensive. Non-profit organizations are constantly trying
to keep up with demand while often using outdated and
inadequate resources. A wish list has been established
to outline specific needs in Sacramento County and to
facilitate collaboration between businesses, individuals
and non-profit organizations in the fight against hunger.
-
Volunteer:
Hundreds of families in Sacramento County are without the food
they need simply because they do not know there are programs
that can help them. To view volunteer requests from specific
agencies, visit Donate Services
and Donate Labor.
-
Advocate:
One of the easiest and most effective ways to help is to advocate
for strong public policies that provide fair and just assistance
for people in need. Get the latest information on current legislation
and download sample letters to use when addressing your policymakers.
-
Participate:
Host an Asset-Based Community Development workshop in
your community. Find out how you and your neighbors can
share your skills and resources to improve community food
security right in your own neighborhood.
-
Educate:
Host a Hunger 101 activity at your church, business or organization.
Hunger 101 is an interactive learning experience which vividly
portrays the challenges low-income people face trying to get
food for themselves and their family every day. For a preview,
try our online version of Hunger
101.
