Hope Awards

In November 2004 the Hunger Commission sponsored the fifth annual Hope Awards, a luncheon to acknowledge and celebrate individuals and organizations working to end hunger in the Sacramento region. There were 24 nominees of all ages, representing a wide range of programs and activities in Sacramento, Placer and Yolo counties. Certificates of recognition were presented to all nominees by Mayor Heather Fargo, County Supervisor Don Nottoli, Assemblymember Darrell Steinberg and Lisa Hill, from Comgressperson Robert Matsui's office.The seven HOPE Award winners were:

 

  • Nancy Findeisen, Community Services Planning Council
  • Bishop Winston Harris, Now Faith Church of Deliverance
  • Evelyn Morse, Elk Grove Senior Center
  • Sharing God's Bounty, St. Philomene's Catholic Church
  • Laurie Green, Sacramento County WIC/Stone Soup Community Gardens
  • Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op
  • Western Growers Association

New this year was the premiere of the HOPE Golden Achivement Award, instituted to recognize longstanding and innovative contributions to ending hunger in the Sacramento region. This year the HOPE Golden Achievement Award winners were:

  • Father Dan Madigan/Sacramento Food Bank Services
  • Senior Gleaners, Inc.
