What Do We Know About People Receiving Emergency Food Aid In Sacramento
County?
We know that:
- Children suffer tile most: almost half of those receiving
food assistance are children and more than one-third are
children under 12 years.
- Families are in need: most of those seeking assistance
are parents with children; half of these are two parent
families.
- Many have jobs: half of the adults are working and another
20% are disabled or retired.
- They are our neighbors: 92% are Sacramento residents,
and at least half have lived here for nine years or more.
- Poverty is a major problem: 80% have incomes below the
federal poverty guidelines.
- They lack information: many would like help understanding
government benefits and would like more information on shopping
