Community Gardens

Photo of a vibrant community garden in Carmichael.Have you ever wanted to grow your own vegetable garden but your soil was bad, or you didn't have enough space, or you just didn't know how to get started on your own? Community Gardens solve all these problems and more by offering communities plots of land that become specially cultivated for gardening. First-time gardeners have the chance to rub elbows with people who have passionately worked with the land their whole lives and want to share their experience. You get to meet your neighbors while also fulfilling the powerful concept of growing your own food (you cannot imagine how rewarding it is to eat the first eggplant of the season that you grew yourself!). Whether the draw for you to start your own plot in a community garden is practical or more spiritual, you are sure to benefit from your experience.

For more information on community gardens, including how to find one near you, see the links page in the Community Food Security section.
